Accurately Measuring Low Resistance

This application note teaches the reader what Kelvin resistance measurements are, why they are required and how to perform them.  To download this application note, click on the diagram shown right.

Electronic Loads Best Practices Produce Quality Test Results

Producing quality test results requires best practices in device under test (DUT) connections.  This application note describes problems encuntered and recommended methods to improve test quality.

Typical Electronic Load Applications
This document consists of a tabular listing of a variety of applications where electronic power loads are used.

  Customization Services

Many of PPM’s products are the result of custom instrumentation developed for customers such as The United States Department of Defense, General Electric, Delphi Automotive and many others.
Whether you need a modification of a PPM catalog listed product or a totally new design, PPM is interested in working with you.

Custom does not mean high cost.  Often, we provide custom solutions to our customers without passing on the engineering development costs.  We can dot this because experience has shown that if you need it, so will others.  In that case, your need turns into a PPM standard product or option to an existing product.

Proprietary Customization is also available from PPM.  Your requirement may be of a nature that you need a special instrument and your desire is to be the exclusive purchaser of it.  In this case, if the volume is justified, PPM will work with you to provide a product that meets just your needs.

With so many different instrumentation/test products commercially available, you may ask “why customize?” Customers develop custom or customized products when:

Basic functionality and/or specifications are not commercially available

The desired features are difficult to access within the wide range of features available on commercially available products (i.e. you need an instrument that is simple to operate)

Portability, ruggedness, easy access to controls, safety interlocks, etc. are not available on commercial products

Modern instruments (often all digital) require significant re-write of calibration/inspection procedures at significant rewrite and retraining expense

Commercial instruments may not be protected against common damaging field blunders

Normal (often portable) packaging is awkward for the intended use

A few examples of customization that PPM has provided follows:

DS-101

The customer required a sine synthesizer that was simple to operate and would produce a precision sinusoidal waveform with very low distortion.  Features usually offered in other products were not desired in order to maintain simplicity of operation and to keep cost down.  PPM designed the DS-101 to fit this need and is now shown as a standard product

 SG16-APS

The customer required 16 channels of precision low noise excitation for strain gages in a data acquisition system.  The isolation required was not available in the customer’s data acquisition systems so PPM was asked to design a multi channel excitation source for this application.  Today this instrument is a standard PPM product and is sold world-wide to industrial and US Government customers.

R1L-D1 low voltage source option

The customer needed the specifications found in model R1L-D and R1L-D1 but required lower open-circuit source voltage.  PPM accommodated this request and the option was added.  It can be seen on page 9.

There are many other examples.

If you would like to discuss your requirement just send us a note via email or request through our website and we will be happy to help in any way we can.
